Your eyes are the focal point of your face and greatly contribute to your overall facial appearance. Bags beneath the eyes, wrinkled, drooping layers of skin on the eyelids and sagging eyebrows can give your entire face a tired, angry or sad expression. Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) can restore a more youthful appearance by removing excess skin folds and bulging fat deposits. Our Doctor is highly skilled in bespoke blepharoplasty techniques specifically tailored for your needs.
The Procedure
Most eyelid surgery is performed under general anesthesia, depending on the extent of the surgery. Eyelid surgery is usually day stay only surgery. It is frequently combined with other facial surgery procedures such as facelift or brow lift surgery. The incisions are made in the natural crease of your eyelid and will gradually fade over time becoming barely visible.
Recovery from Eyelid Surgery
Even though eyelid surgery has a fast recovery time, you should plan to take it easy for the first week or so. You can wear makeup shortly after the stitches are removed, and most patients can return to work after 7 to 10 days. Some patients may experience a little tightness, dryness or sensitivity to light, but this will vary for each person.

The most common age for blepharoplasty is during the 40s and 50s, but people often select this procedure from their mid-20s if their droopy eyelids affect their sight.
Upper eyelid surgery can be either be performed in rooms with a local anaesthetic or in hospital if you prefer. Upper and lower eyelid surgery combined is performed in hospital under general anaesthetic as a day procedure. This usually takes 1-1.5 hours and you will need someone to pick you up and care for you at least overnight.
Eyelid surgery is usually a one-time event. As your eyelids age further procedures to rejuvenate the eyelids may be necessary.
The incisions are made in the natural crease of your eyelid and will gradually fade over time becoming barely visible.
This depends on the extent of your eyelid surgery i.e upper eyelid surgery alone or upper and lower eyelid surgery.
The cost of upper eyelid surgery is determined by the expected complexity and duration of your operation and will be estimated following your first consultation.
There are possible Medicare rebates if your eyelid skin causes visual obstruction. This will be determined on the day of your consultation. The Medicare item number is 45617 x 2.
Glasses can be worn immediately after surgery. Contact lenses should be avoided for around 10-14 days.
In double eyelid surgery, a fold on the upper eyelid is created for people who don’t naturally have one. This is a very common and popular procedure among Asian people who don’t have creases on their upper eyelids.
Lasers or chemical peels are sometimes used for fine wrinkles around the lower lids. They are often used in combination with other eyelid techniques. Your surgeon will help you choose the best technique for your specific needs.
